so stop flicking your cigarette butts out car windows, or tossing them in the gutter, or out of site. They belong in an ashtray. Don’t have an ashtray? Find a garbage can.
It’s estimated that 250 billion cigarette butts a year are tossed irresponsibly nationwide. Thanks to the plastic in their filters, it takes 70 years for each of those butts to biodegrade. That means these things are going to be around for a long, long time.
And they end up in lakes, rivers streams. Oceans. Animals eat them. They end up in the soil, our drinking water. Best of all, when they are tossed they still contain nicotine and yummy, yummy tar.
I could care less if you choose to smoke. Please stop littering the planet; it’s the easiest, most simple thing you can do to help, and it does have an impact.
How would you feel if someone tossed a bottle or can out their car window? Would you think: “That dude is so cool, the way he tossed that empty water bottle demonstrated more machismo than I could ever possible dream of having.” Or does littering make you pissed off?
Or what if I came into your home, and tossed my beer bottles and cans any place I felt they would contribute to the atmosphere?
Just throw them away. You’ll look a whole lot cooler if you do.
