I can’t begin to tell you how hard it was to come back to the “real world” after spending a few days in Mexico kicking it on the beach, racing, and just forgetting about all those stressors I’ve somehow managed to start paying far too much attention to.
It’s as if I retreated back to my days working in news — digesting as much information as possible — it’s really unhealthy, and most of the info you take in, you cannot do anything with, so it is a major waste.
That’s why I’m recommending that everyone go Timothy Leary and “Turn on, Tune in, and Drop out” but skip the psychedelic drugs.
I came to this conclusion after watching the first 2-3 minutes of the second debate between McCain and Obama. The managed to stick to the same drool generating rhetoric of the first debate without including any new or real information.
It’s very frustrating.
And I’ve gotten to the point where I am beginning to lose trust in all of our elected officials.
Iv’e gotten to the point where I no longer believe they have our best interests at heart. McCain keeps using phrases like “my friends” and “Americans deserve some straight talk about. . . ”
Long, long ago, I learned NEVER to trust anyone who calls themselves or someone else as a “straight shooter.” “Straight talk” is B.S. — I don’t believe it; I think it’s dishonest. And his “Straight Talk Express?” Well that’s just the delivery system.
Nope. I’m going back to putting my head in the sand focusing on the stuff I can control, because obviously the people who are elected to look after our best interests have managed to screw it up to the point where the economy is broken, the rest of the world does not like us, nor wants to support us, and the climate is suffering.
So, turn on to those things you enjoy, tune out all the freaking nonsensical crap, and drop out of zombiesque (I know it’s not a word) crowd waiting for things to get better. Enjoy what you have now: your friends, family, pets, fresh vegetables grown in your backyard. That’s the stuff that matters. And somehow I’ve managed to keep that in perspective the last few weeks.
I’m killing my consumption of news until AT LEAST after the election.
