Going Leary on the Election

October 8, 2008 | Leave a Comment

I can’t begin to tell you how hard it was to come back to the “real world” after spending a few days in Mexico kicking it on the beach, racing, and just forgetting about all those stressors I’ve somehow managed to start paying far too much attention to.

It’s as if I retreated back to my days working in news — digesting as much information as possible — it’s really unhealthy, and most of the info you take in, you cannot do anything with, so it is a major waste.

That’s why I’m recommending that everyone go Timothy Leary and “Turn on, Tune in, and Drop out” but skip the psychedelic drugs. Read more

71014_moneyhappiness_vl-vertical.jpgDo you like money? How ’bout opening mail? Leisure time?

Who am I kidding. We all do.

And that’s why for a limited time only, I am offering a low, low price on my patented system to building endless wealth without raising a finger.

Economic freedom.  It’s easier than you think, and I guarantee that hardly anyone is using my patented system for building endless wealth so there are GOBS of cash to be made.

Decades of cheap gas has it’s price

Gas Prices From Around the World

For decades the US has paid far less for gasoline than the rest of the world.  Now we’re playing catch-up. We’re all feeling the pain: higher grocery prices, jobs are being cut, and traveling is far from affordable.

Is the solution really drilling for oil — a finite resource — off of our shores and in Alaska? Or would we be better off investing in RENEWABLE energy like wind and solar and alternative fuel like sugarcane based ethanol (Brazil is having huge success with this)?

The Pickens Plan has real promise: T. Boone Pickens’ wind-based plan to reduce dependency on foreign oil.  The plan is to dramatically increase windpower generation and natural gas in an effort ween America off of fossil fuels.

Pickens, himself, acknowledges that this is not a long-term solution, but would buy time to develop a larger strategy.

We can start drilling today, and have cheap energy for a short time, but in the long run, I think we’re better off getting off the black liquid crack.  Let’s face it, it is making people crazy, and lessening our dependency does mirror drug addiction to an extent.  It’s painful, lives are changing dramatically, and it’s an extremely tough process to go through.

The upside is that producing alternative energy would offer substantial growth in new industries — that means JOBS people.

Trying to Keep Cool

June 12, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Literally and figuratively.  Yesterday morning, right as I was coming down the homestretch of a fairly challenging run, I was forced to stop dead in my tracks.

I was about to step off the curb and cross the street when a guy in a white Chrysler 300 came hauling ass through the intersection.  He gave me the “my bad” wave for running the stop sign, and I agreed with him by flipping him off.

I’m tired of dealing with people who drive like they own the roads.  He unfortunately, got to see how I felt about the issue.

He made it about 20 feet past the intersection, where he stopped, got out of his car and looked at me.

I simply pointed to the stop sign.  I was too busy enjoying my iPod to really care about what he had to say.  Wouldn’t have mattered.

But that’s Scottsdale.

There are a lot of things here that match the stereotypes everyone has heard about.  There’s a lot of cool stuff too.  Like anyplace, it is what you make it.

It’s too easy to blame the heat.  With the temperature now above 100 basically everyday, it’s too easy to say that the heat makes people crazy, tempers rise, blah, blah, blah.

Just another excuse for being selfish and not caring about anyone else but yourself.

I hope when people visit Sarah and I, people understand that not everyone here is like that.  Sure there is a lot of evidence to suggest there are, but there’s a lot of us who are different.

And I plan on keeping it that way.

So if you see the neo-hippie looking dude wandering through a parking lot with a banana hanging out of his mouth, a cup of  coffee in one hand, and car keys in the other, wave.  Smile.

Slow down. You might actually enjoy it.

cigarette.jpgso stop flicking your cigarette butts out car windows, or tossing them in the gutter, or out of site. They belong in an ashtray. Don’t have an ashtray? Find a garbage can.

It’s estimated that 250 billion cigarette butts a year are tossed irresponsibly nationwide. Thanks to the plastic in their filters, it takes 70 years for each of those butts to biodegrade. That means these things are going to be around for a long, long time.

And they end up in lakes, rivers streams. Oceans. Animals eat them. They end up in the soil, our drinking water. Best of all, when they are tossed they still contain nicotine and yummy, yummy tar.

I could care less if you choose to smoke. Please stop littering the planet; it’s the easiest, most simple thing you can do to help, and it does have an impact.

How would you feel if someone tossed a bottle or can out their car window? Would you think: “That dude is so cool, the way he tossed that empty water bottle demonstrated more machismo than I could ever possible dream of having.” Or does littering make you pissed off?

Or what if I came into your home, and tossed my beer bottles and cans any place I felt they would contribute to the atmosphere?

Just throw them away. You’ll look a whole lot cooler if you do.
