Christmas Lights Arizona Style

Let there be light! Six hours and eight fuses later, I got the job done.
It’s long been a Nickerson tradition to put up lights for the holidays. For years my Dad has decorated his house in Idaho, and I enjoy doing it too. My Dad’s tradition has always been put up lights on either the coldest or nastiest day of the year.
Here in Scottsdale, I had to brave early morning sunshine. The glare was unbearable. I think it was only in the mid 50s when I started. I actually had to wear a long sleeve shirt, and I almost shivered.
That’s a far cry to putting up lights in temperatures well below freezing or when it’s raining sideways.
Our entire neighborhood is decorated with tons of lights. There might now be snow on the ground, but the holiday spirit is alive and well.

Sarah and I posed with the camera mugging duo of Lucy & Sadie last night. I know it’s hard to see from the photo, but this was definitely a one-shot opportunity.

By some accounts, it rained more in the Phoenix area in the past 24 hours, than it has for the entire year.
It rained most of the day Friday and off and on today. As you can see, our pool, even with the cover on, is fairly full. All of the neighborhood gullies were flowing nicely, but it sounds like there was no major flooding.
I got some yard work done this morning during a dryspell, but a crash of thunder and following downpour brought a stop to my work before I was done.
This weekend is the start of a much needed rest week from Ironman training. Sarah and I have been going non-stop for about six weeks — week one started with my half-Ironman race — so we are due.
